Halla Cement stands as the longest-standing corporate partner of Habitat for Humanity Korea. For 24 years, the company has consistently supported the “House of Hope” project, building a lasting legacy of community service and social responsibility.
On August 30, more than 30 volunteers from Asia Cement and Halla Cement gathered at a construction site in Cheonan to assist families in need of stable housing. This year’s project carried special significance, as the homes are specifically designated for newlywed couples struggling to find affordable housing.
Building a Brighter Future Together
The volunteer group, which included many new hires who joined the companies after August 2023, arrived early at the site in Seonggeo-eup, Cheonan. There was a palpable sense of excitement as the new employees participated in their first home-building initiative.Under strict safety protocols, the volunteers spent the day transporting materials, cutting wooden components, and installing exterior siding. Despite the unfamiliar tasks and the sweltering late-summer heat, the team worked tirelessly with a shared sense of purpose.
Kim Jeong-ho, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Korea’s Chungnam-Sejong branch, expressed his gratitude:“A home provides a foundation for people to dream of a new future. We are deeply grateful for your hard work and dedication in helping us build a happier community through your valuable time and effort.”He also extended his thanks to both companies for their ongoing donations of cement and their consistent commitment to employee volunteer programs.
A Foundation of Hope for New Families
The site will eventually feature 16 two-story homes, utilizing a hybrid of concrete and wood construction. Scheduled for completion this December, these residences will be provided to non-homeowning newlyweds.
Kim Jong-pil, Secretary General of the Chungnam-Sejong branch and project lead, explained the vision behind the build:“We are building these homes to alleviate the housing burdens that often force young couples to delay marriage and childbirth. With the generous support of Asia and Halla Cement, we will continue to move forward with compassion and dedication.”
